Sustainability has become a critical differentiator for organisations pursuing both public and private sector opportunities.
Public, and increasingly private sector procurement bodies place significant emphasis on environmental and social commitments, often weighting sustainability heavily in evaluation criteria.
This is typically, between 10-30% of evaluation criteria, but can be as much as 50%, thus placing as much emphasis on Sustainability, as buyers do on Value for Money and Mobilisation. Companies must increasingly demonstrate strong ESG credentials, including Health and Safety Compliance, Carbon Reduction, Responsible Sourcing, and other aspects of Social Value delivery.
Plan-It-ESG helps organisations both build and evidence sustainability, thereby strengthening market position.
There are a range of ways in which we can help do this, including through:
-
- Carbon Reduction Plans;
-
- Ensuring you have the required ESG policy suites that need to be submitted to prospective buyers;
-
- Creating tender-ready sustainability responses, capturing past and current examples and case studies, as well as future social value commitments;
-
- ESG messaging to use in your marketing materials, including ESG marketing brochures and sustainability statements, which can also enhance the quality of your website for prospective buyers visiting the site;
-
- Support with certifications, accreditations, external audits and the like;
-
- Providing guidance through public tender requirements, building relationships to ensure what the buyer needs is clearly understood and listened to.
All supporting with how you can improve your responses to buyer needs, procurement framework readiness, and compliance, to meet rising ESG expectations.
In our opinion, an approach to piling high responses to tenders, in the hope that one or more lands well, is not the critical first step, and could be a wasteful use of resources. Our recommended focus is to ensure you have solid foundations in place first, giving you confidence in your ability to successfully bid for tenders. Not all buyers will be as rigid in their requirements as Public Sector buyers are. However, if solid foundations aren’t in place, a great deal of time and effort could be spent on bid preparation that there is little or no chance of being successful at.
In that respect there are several activities with which Plan-It-ESG can support with. Helping you to:
-
- Consider priorities for evolving the business, creating a development roadmap and clarity, to include confirming your priority target markets, necessary infrastructure requirements, resourcing, etc.
-
- Build the foundations for your Sustainability narrative, including the option of using any available buyer pre-engagement information as a template for requirements
-
- Enhance capture of your organisation’s Social Value Principles, achievements to date, outcomes for people and communities, enhancements of Social Value Measurement, future commitments and strategy, all supporting delivery against the weightings for social value in tender evaluations
-
- Integrate ESG messaging into your marketing collateral, including the preparation of Sustainability Statements, Sustainability evidence, case studies, brochures and early enhancements to your website content
